This was my first introduction to the Connells. I first got a hold of the album waaaaaaaaaay back when "Stone Cold Yesterday" made it onto the playlists of a few Southern California radio stations. There are very few albums on which I like every song, but this is one of them. The songwriting is excellent, and the music is wonderfully eclectic. It's too mellow for hard rockers, though.

Fun and Games was great and a little raw. Ring was a little too overpolished. Admittedly, I haven't kept up with their albums since then. But One Simple Word was their benchmark. This is a great band that really deserved more recognition back in the late 80's and early 90's. I saw them in concert on this tour and couldn't help but think how much better they were than so many other bands getting more radio play.

I rarely ever write reviews for Amazon, but this is one of the more influential albums I own, and I'm a musician. The guitar sounds on this album are some of the most addictive, brilliant tones I know of; disimilar from anybody I know (maybe it's like the edge from U2?) and the melodies are so catchy. I highly recommend this album to anyone who appreciates great sounding, innovative music. These guys never got the attention they deserved.

I listened to this on a cassette tape when I was in high school & college (about 1990-1997) & my friends & I loved it. (Also, The Connells Fun & Games CD). I think the best tracks on this CD are is 8-12. Not to say that the first 7 tracks aren't good, but those are my favorites, especially Too Gone, The Joke, and Another Souvenir. These songs bring back memories. Great CD!

I have been a fan of The Connells for about 10 years or so. I was introduced to them by a friend who heard them around his college, which is precisely the "sound" they had. I think this was their best album, though I like them all. The songs are all well written and catchy with a "power pop" feel. I'll never understand how they didn't become more popular. I highly recommend this disc.
