I like these two albums very much. The reasons to buy them are for the filler. You can find most of the hits on any greatest hits package, but at least here they are in stereo and sound beautiful. Surfer Girl is probably the better album. With songs like "Hawaii", "Catch A Wave", "In My Room", and the title song how can you go wrong? "Surfer's Rule" is also an alright song with Dennis Wilson on vocals. Listen for the attack on The Four Seasons at the end of the song.

This is the Beach Boys' third and fifth albums Surfer Girl (September 1963) and Shut Down, Vol. 2 (March 1964), released during a two-year period which saw the release of eight albums! Capitol ignored and mistreated the Beach Boys catalog for so many years, it was truly amazing when they reissued all of their albums as 2-fers with bonus tracks and extensive liner notes. Of course, it was only a matter of time until the regime changed and the 2-fers were deleted, as they now are in the USA. Rumor has it they'll be reissued, but for the time being you have to pick them up as imports.
Surfer Girl and Shut Down Vol. 2 represent prime mid-period Beach Boys. It's more sophisticated ...

The firsat album Surfer girl was great, i love every song on here. this is yet another great album. the only sad thing about this album is this is when david L. Marks left. Down with Al Jardine. Shut down Part 2 was a great album, there are no bad songs on here, the only bad part about this album is the fact that Al Jardine is a part of the band again.
