Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Richard Walker and Karine Charff make up the British space music duo Amp. On their third official album, Stenorette, Amp extend and refine the seductive, psychedelic drone rock of their previous efforts. Amp's thick, textured sound is composed primarily of Walker's echoing instrumentation and Charff's haunted vocal stylings. Walker's keyboard-based compositions are extremely focused, and his strangled guitar sound is steeped in rich feedback. With ethereal soundscapes and numerous reverberating studio effects, Amp's sonic persona remains melodically dramatic and deeply evocative. While the open-ended nature of Amp's meditative musical stance occasionally comes across as aimless, the duo successfully sustains its forbidding moodology for the entire CD. Slow, low, and totally deliberate, Amp are an acquired taste that deserve to be tried at least once. --Mitch Myers

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Beautiful and Bizarre
More of a sonic collage than anything else, this cd contains everything from pretty piano/vocal pieces to noise drones that sound like you're descending into hell... The best tracks have cool, trippy dance beats (break-beats ala Bowery Electric) underneath waves of white noise-buried-melodies. Really quite an original piece of work, and yes, it will scare you... Like everything on Kranky, you should buy it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Scary ambient noize
STENORETTE sounds like a fine mixture between ambient, shoegazer, and experimental noise, with lush pianos and gorgeous, almost subliminal vocals. "Tomorrow", the beautiful opener, stands out. A great choice for a night listening with headphones, and scare the hell out of you.
